I found a space that feels the same as me and brings together and acts with those who feel the same, announcing with alternative practices the world with which God dreams and denouncing corruption and impunity with a voice heard in the public sphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What led you to engage in this calling?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Llegu\u00e9 a comprometerme con el evangelio encarnado al vivir en carne propia el racismo en los Estados Unidos por hablar el ingl\u00e9s con acento latino y proceder de una colonia, Puerto Rico. Me enfureci\u00f3 darme cuenta de que mis t\u00edos migrantes y mi pueblo hubiesen sido crucificados; y me dije a m\u00ed mismo en presencia de Dios, de hoy en adelante comprometo mi vida a bajar a los pueblos crucificados de sus cruces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I came to commit myself to the incarnated gospel by experiencing racism in the United States for speaking English with a Latin accent and proceeding from a colony, Puerto Rico. It angered me to realize that my uncles and my people had been crucified, and in the presence of God, I said to myself, from now on, I commit my life to bringing down the crucified peoples of their crosses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is there a passage of scripture that carries special meaning in your daily work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucas 4:18-19<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anunciar el jubileo, la alianza del pacto en Sina\u00ed, al pueblo que no deb\u00eda reproducir la esclavitud, porque esclavo hab\u00eda sido. Alianza que la monarqu\u00eda quebr\u00f3 y que los profetas revivieron en la expectativa de la llegada del Cristo Mes\u00edas que establecer\u00eda un dominio humano que humanizar\u00eda las relaciones en la sociedad. Quien proclam\u00f3 ese mensaje en el umbral de su servicio terrenal es quien inspira mi camino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke 4: 18-19<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announce the jubilee, the Covenant alliance at Sinai, to the people who should not reproduce slavery, because they had been slaves. Alliance that the monarchy broke and that the prophets revived in the expectation of the arrival of the Christ Messiah who would establish a human domain that would humanize the relations in society. The one who proclaimed that message on the threshold of his earthly service is the one who inspires my path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are some challenges facing the people of Guatemala, our partner, or yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los desaf\u00edos que enfrentan nuestros compa\u00f1eros y yo en el ministerio est\u00e1n especificados seg\u00fan tres expresiones violentas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La violencia con efectos materiales<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Armamentismo, militarismo y nuevas guerras (terrorismo y paramilitarismo)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trata humana y tr\u00e1fico de armas, \u00f3rganos y drogas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crimen organizado y pandillerismo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conflictos armados, acuerdos de paz y cuentas pendientes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Planes b\u00e9licos de seguridad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Militarizaci\u00f3n de las fuerzas gubernamentales de seguridad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Juventudes y ni\u00f1ez enganchadas en la violencia y violentadas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feminicidios y violencias contra las mujeres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fronteras sometidas a la l\u00f3gica de seguridad<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aasesinatos, robos, desapariciones forzadas, detenciones y ejecuciones arbitrarias, uso de la tortura<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agresiones y hasta asesinatos de defensores de derechos humanos y periodistas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>La violencia incrustada en las estructuras pol\u00edticas y sociales que no permiten la satisfacci\u00f3n de las necesidades humanas (supervivencia, bienestar, identidad o libertad)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Acaparamiento de los recursos estrat\u00e9gicos, megaproyectos, monocultivos del capitalismo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distribuci\u00f3n injusta de la riqueza<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Desempleo, endeudamiento p\u00fablico, muertes por desnutrici\u00f3n y por enfermedades curables<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cambio clim\u00e1tico y destrucci\u00f3n de la naturaleza<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coerci\u00f3n a la libre determinaci\u00f3n de pueblos originarios y afrodescendientes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Estado colonial moderno<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patriarcado<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colonialismo e imperialismo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impunidad y sistemas de justicia deficientes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inequidad que genera el sistema capitalista en su modalidad neoliberal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>La violencia simb\u00f3lica que legitima la violencia directa y estructural<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Colonialismo epist\u00e9mico<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mass media y todas las instituciones que influyen en formar la opini\u00f3n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imaginarios patriarcales, racistas y homof\u00f3bicos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>criminalizaci\u00f3n de los migrantes, lideresas y l\u00edderes, refugiados y desplazados; desapariciones, explotaci\u00f3n sexual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discriminaci\u00f3n y racismo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consumismo e individualismo&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fundamentalismos religiosos y el paternalismo eclesial<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenges facing our colleagues and I in the ministry are specified according to three violent expressions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violence with physical effects<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Stocking up on weaponry, militarism, and new wars (terrorism and paramilitarism)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human trafficking and trafficking of weapons, organs, and drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organized crime and gangs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Armed conflicts, peace agreements, and pending accounts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Security war plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Militarization of governmental security forces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Youth and children engaged in violence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Femicide and violence against women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Borders subject to security logic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assassinations, robberies, forced disappearances, arbitrary arrests and executions, use of torture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assaults and even killings of human rights defenders and journalists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Violence embedded in political and social structures that obstruct &nbsp;the satisfaction of human needs (survival, welfare, identity or freedom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Hoarding of strategic resources, megaprojects, monocultures of capitalism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unequal wealth distribution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unemployment, public indebtedness, deaths due to malnutrition and curable diseases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Climate change and the destruction of nature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coercion of the self-determination of indigenous peoples and people of African descent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modern colonial state<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patriarchy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colonialism and imperialism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impunity and deficient justice systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inequity generated by a capitalist system in its neoliberal form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Symbolic violence that legitimizes physical and structural violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Epistemic colonialism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mass media and all the institutions that influence opinions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patriarchal, racist, and homophobic imaginaries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Criminalization of migrants, leaders and leaders, refugees and displaced persons; disappearances, sexual exploitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discrimination and racism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consumerism and individualism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Religious fundamentals and ecclesial paternalism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What lesson have you learned from our partner that you feel should be shared with churches in the U.S.?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Algunas lecciones que he aprendido de mis compas son:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Que hay que organizarse y movilizar a las fuerzas para que los hijos y las hijas de Dios que sufren injusticias se transformen en actores.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Que hay que acompa\u00f1ar a los que luchan con formaci\u00f3n para que promuevan efectivamente la paz, propiciando an\u00e1lisis del sistema mundo econ\u00f3mico, del patriarcado y del racismo, favoreciendo el cruce de fronteras \u00e9tnicas, raciales, intergeneracionales, interreligiosas y de g\u00e9nero.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Que hay que luchar con memoria para que la reconciliaci\u00f3n sea curaci\u00f3n y no impunidad.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Que la humanidad hay que afirmarla contra toda bestialidad para que haya paz.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Que con los que sufren y los que luchan hoy, hay que serles compa\u00f1eros.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Que la voz prof\u00e9tica hay que levantarla para que se oiga.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some lessons that I have learned from my compa\u00f1eros\/as are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>That it is necessary to organize and mobilize our strengths so that the sons and daughters of God who suffer injustices become actors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That we must accompany those who struggle with preparedness to promote peace effectively, promoting analyses of the economic world system, patriarchy and racism, and favoring the crossing of ethnic, racial, intergenerational, interreligious and gender borders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That we must fight with memory so that reconciliation is healing and not impunity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That humanity must be affirmed against all bestiality for living in peace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That with those who suffer and those who struggle today we need to be their partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That the prophetic voice must be raised to be heard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which books have influenced your understanding of your country, work, or theology?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>Guatemala Nunca M\u00e1s<\/em>, ODHAG-REMHI. <a href=\"http:\/\/odhag.org.gt\/pdf\/Guatemala%20Nunca%20Mas%20(resumen).pdf\">http:\/\/odhag.org.gt\/pdf\/Guatemala%20Nunca%20Mas%20(resumen).pdf<\/a>;
