A new World Council of Churches (WCC) publication, \u201cThe Light of Peace \u2013 The Churches and the Korean Peninsula,\u201d is offering WCC member churches resources for understanding and reflecting on 70 years of unresolved conflict on the Korean Peninsula during this anniversary year, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

An introductory booklet was released on 22 June, and will be followed by a more comprehensive book in September as well as a later multi-media publication.<\/p>\n

The content will be drawn from a variety of contributors, each with their own experience of or expertise in the Korean journey. Emphasizing the importance of the spiritual response, every chapter starts with a spiritual reflection, followed by a text and ends with a prayer.<\/p>\n

The series will serve as an educational, spiritual, worship and formation resource, and encourage churches and individuals to pray for peace, reunification and an end to division on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n

In the preface, WCC Asia president Rev. Dr Sang Chang reflects that the publication is designed to offer historical and geopolitical background on the division and conflict on the Korean Peninsula, as well as the spiritual and theological meanings of the global ecumenical initiatives for peace and reunification for the Korean people.<\/p>\n

“Each chapter is enlivened by personal stories, interviews, and prayers,\u201d writes Chang. \u201cYou can enter into the booklet at any chapter to be able to learn something about Korea, to share it with others and to offer resources for engagement and solidarity within your own church and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
